The National Unity Platform (NUP) the party with the big number of opposition legislators in the 12th parliament has today constituted their leadership which will be led by Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi who has been retained as the Leader of Opposition.
NUP also appointed Manjiya county MP also the party’s Deputy President Eastern John Baptist Nambeshe to the parliamentary commission. Jinja Southern East MP Paul Mwiru will serve as the Opposition Chief Whip while Kyadondo East MP Muwada Nkunyingi will serve as the Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) and will be deputized by Kiira Municipality MP George Musisi.
Patrick Nsamba Oshabe the MP for Kasanda North has been appointed the chairperson Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and will be deputized by Jinja City Women MP Sarah Lwansasula. Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake has been appointed Chairperson of the Government Assurances Committee and will be deputized by FDC’s Anna Adeke Ebaju the Soroti District Women Representative.
Vocal Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze appointed Chairperson of the Local Government Accounts Committee and will be deputized by Iganga Municipality’s Abed Nasser Mudiobole.
NUP has also appointed representatives to different international parliamentary bodies; Busujju county MP David Kalwanga Lukyamuzi appointed representative at the Pan- African parliament, Kyotera District Women MP Rose Fortunate Nantongo appointed representative to the Common Wealth Parliamentary Association, Katikamu South MP Hassan Kirumira appointed representative to the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member states.
Luwero District Women MP Brenda Nabukenya appointed representative to the Inter-Parliamentary Union while Lubaga North MP Abubaker Kawalya appointed to the Parliamentary Pensions Scheme. Joan Namutawe the Masaka District Women MP appointed representative to the Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly.
NUP also appointed a shadow cabinet as seen in the list below. It has members of parliament of different political parties like FDC, ANT, DP, UPC, NUP and those who are independents but not aligning to NRM.
