The Soroti Catholic Diocese has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated homecoming of Bishop Simon Peter Engurait, the Ugandan-born Bishop of Houma-Thibodaux, due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the country. Bishop Engurait was scheduled to make his first visit to Uganda since his installation as bishop in the United States on September 5, 2025. As schools across Uganda reopened, fears of a new Ebola outbreak have resurfaced, with many institutions still unprepared despite hard-learned lessons from previous epidemics. During the 2022 Sudan virus Ebola outbreak in Uganda, schools were forced to close two weeks earlier than scheduled due to rapid transmission among learners. According to the WHO, children were disproportionately affected, accounting for approximately 25% of all confirmed cases. The outbreak was particularly deadly for young children, with a case fatality rate of about 74% among those under 10 years old. A 35-year-old man is on the run in Mityana district after allegedly strangling his estranged wife to death following a failed reconciliation attempt. The deceased, identified as 23-year-old Sherina Namatovu a resident of Nakitolo Cell, Ttanda Ward in Ttamu Division, Mityana Municipality, was found dead in a cassava garden near a railway line on Sunday morning. Police in Old Kampala Division are investigating the killing of a 34-year-old boda-boda rider following a heated argument over football during celebrations marking Arsenal’s historic English Premier League triumph in Kampala. The deceased, identified only as Denis, a boda-boda rider and resident of Bakuli in Kampala Central Division, reportedly lost his life on Sunday after what began as football banter turned into a deadly confrontation. The Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, has challenged women judges to use their leadership positions to advance access to justice, mentor young legal professionals, and champion gender equality across Uganda.
