KABAROLE DISTRICT I URN: Calls for the fight against corruption dominated the swearing-in ceremony of the new Kabarole District leadership, held on Friday at the District headquarters in Kitumba and presided over by Hood Matovu the Chief Magistrate of Bundibugyo.

During prayers at the event, religious leaders tasked the incoming leadership to prioritize integrity and transparency in public service.

Charles Akugizibwe a resident of Busoro sub county said that in this new term of office, residents expect better service delivery in health centers and schools. He asked the leaders to improve staffing and availability of medicines in government health facilities while also improving the quality of education.

Micheal Bwente noted that corruption within the District Service Commission had forced some job seekers to pay bribes to secure government employment. He urged the new leaders to investigate the allegations and ensure fairness and transparency in recruitment processes.

Bwente also appealed for improvement of the road network, especially in rural areas, so as to enable the farmers to transport their produce to markets. Betty Masika asked the new district leadership to improve services in health centers, especially maternal health and antenatal services for expectant mothers.

The new leaders pledged to fight corruption which has tainted the district for years, to tackle absenteeism among civil servants, to improve roads, health services, education and to creating employment opportunities for the youth.

The former district chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga described his 15-year leadership as a transformative period marked by improved service delivery and visionary leadership. He urged the new leadership to remain courageous, trust in God, and maintain accessibility to the public while ensuring a consistent presence in office.

Rwabuhinga also appealed to technical staff to allow political leaders sufficient space to execute their mandate effectively.   He urged the new administration to follow up on several development pledges made by Yoweri Museveni for Kabarole District.  Some of the pledges include the construction of an industrial park, Buhinga Stadium and the tarmacking of Kijura Road among others.

Councilors also pledged to support efforts aimed at promoting transparency and accountability.   Noble Murungi Musobozi the district councilor for Rutete sub county for said the council is focused on fighting corruption and ensuring proper accountability of government programs.

Grace Ahumuza said the new district leadership has a responsibility of restoring public trust by eliminating corruption, adding that some previous leaders had failed residents in accessing services.
